-Studio experience examining the technical questions and formal issues that arise at the beginning level. Exploration of how an artist organizes elements in a visual field to make a dynamic, coherent and paintable composition in direct painting techniques. Studio Practicum supplemented with lecture and critique.

-Studio experiences in processes, media, and techniques used in the art of drawing. Gesture, shape, value, line, color, composition, and spatial illusion are explored as a means toward developing skill and individual expression.

- A foundations course that explores the production and design of representational, abstract, and symbolic images. Students are introduced to lens-based, digital, and analog processes for creating imagery, explorations of various techniques and technologies. Through the study of image systems and cultural contexts, students develop skills for various modes of image-making in art and design, an understanding of their expressive potentials, and the role of interpretation and critical analysis of images within a contemporary context.

- A foundations course which introduces drawing and other descriptive processes as an expansive practice and a means for developing perceptual and conceptual thinking skills. Various methods of image making, three-dimensional modeling, and data mapping are used as tools for observation and expression.

Media may include oil paint, acrylic paint, watercolor, airbrush, pen, ink, paper, canvas, panel, or other surfaces.

-An advanced studio course where students expand the production and integration of digital techniques, technologies, and tools to create sequential, visual compositions and artworks, as well as methods of presenting them in the physical space for a contemporary audience. Students engage in critical analysis and practice through the histories, traditions, and experimental uses of 2D, 3D, 4D, time-based, and art-based computer imaging.

-This course explores the use of structure and space as physical, conceptual, and organizational practices in contemporary art and design. Students develop their ideas through composition and fabrication, considering issues such as scale, site-specificity, repetition, impermanence, and performativity. Individual and collaborative making provide the opportunity for students to explore, define, and create organizational systems and structures.

-An introductory course where students learn techniques, technologies, and tools to create digital fine artwork in a contemporary context. Students explore ways that artists have used creative digital imaging as expressive modes for artmaking. Students participate in critique and critical analysis of digital artwork with the goal of generating a personal, individualized approach to making digital artworks and physical fabrications.

-“Hip Hop culture has profoundly influenced art since the 1970s. Hip hop has given voice to new art forms and new approaches to existing artistic practices. Art and Hip Hop will explore this phenomenon within the context of traditional and contemporary art; polyculturalism and multiculturalism; activism and politics; and gender and race.”
